The band eventually split and John joined teams with Bernie Taupin, who wrote lyrics while John wrote the music and in 1970 recorded the album Elton John. This was a huge take off, and launched Elton John’s career. Elton John has sold over 200 million records, giving him the honor of being one of the most successful and talented artists of all time. Billy Joel was born in the Bronx and raised in Hicksville, New York. He began piano lessons at a very early age and also took up boxing lessons to defend himself. He dropped out of high school with only one credit remaining, granting him his diploma, in pursue of a music career. Billy Joel founded a group called the Echoes and began to play with them immediately at the age of 14. He later left the band and joined others before finally signing his first solo record contract with Artire Ripp of family productions. Billy Joel’s first solo album entitled Cold Spring Harbor was released in 1971. There was an error in recording the album resulting in Billy Joel sounding a semitone too high, which resulted in low sales. Billy Joel got a chance to redeem himself with a live performance album entitled Songs in the Attic. Billy Joel went on to produce many legendary albums and accomplished many goals. He is the sixth best selling recording artist in the United States.
