OKC Basketball team name "Thunder" to be announced today
09-03-08 Clay Bennett and company will be announcing their basketball team's new name and colors today. All guesses are leaning toward the Oklahoma City Thunder after a few NBA sites have mistakenly leaked the name on team schedules. Early on it was presumed the team would be named the Oklahoma City Barons but the organization had problems wrapping up an available domain name so they had to look at other options. The Thunder will be Oklahoma City's first professional sports team. The Thunder's home games will be played at the Ford Center in downtown OKC. They are currently using a temporary practice facility and are seeking options for a more permanent location. This season they will play atleast one preseason game in Tulsa at the BOK Center and they will probably make this an annual event. Bennett and Co have also setup a farm team for the Thunder in Tulsa called the 66ers. The 66ers home games will be played in the new Spirit Bank Events Center located in Bixby, OK.
